TMJ

TMJ therapy is the treatment of jaw joint dysfunction. The dysfunction of the jaw joint most commonly involves symptoms such as headaches, jaw joint noise (clicking), limited opening and movement, and facial muscle soreness. The onset of TMJ dysfunction is related to abnormal loading of the joint mainly caused by clenching and bruxing related to stress, trauma to the jaw, traumatic occlusion, or genetic inheritance. The objective of therapy is to unload the joint. Unloading the joint is accomplished through a series of appliances. Unloading the joint allows for healing. After healing has occurred, stabilization of the joint is done to reduce the loading of the joint.
